Around 7 PM in the evening, the tragedy happened close to Tuvalthiram
beach in Malappuram’s Tanur district.
On Sunday night, a double-decker boat overturned and sank on Tuvalthiram beach in the
Malappuram district of Kerala, resulting in the death of 22 individuals, including seven
children.
The state government has accused the boat’s owner of culpable homicide, and an
investigation is underway. Although approximately 40 people were believed to have tickets
for the boat, the exact number is unclear, and many others aboard without tickets. Reports
indicate that the boat did not possess a safety certificate.
Rescue operations are being carried out by members of the National Disaster Response
Force (NDRF) and the Indian Coast Guard. In order to find individuals who are still missing,
underwater cameras are being employed.
In addition to expressing condolences for the families of each dead, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi provided a 2 lack rupee settlement.

PMNRF (Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund) would give each deceased person’s next of
kin ex-gratia of 2 lacks.
Rahul Gandhi, a Congress politician, and former Wayanad MP, also wished for the quick
recovery of those hurt.
Disturbed to hear that a houseboat in Malappuram, Kerala, capsized. I send my sincere
condolences to everyone who has lost a loved one and hope those who were hurt have a
swift recovery. Gandhi tweeted, “I appeal to Congress workers to support rescue
operations.”
The Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, has directed the district collector of
Malappuram to commence an immediate emergency rescue operation and announce his
visit to the site. The operation involves the participation of local residents from Tanur, as
well as personnel from the police, fire, and health departments.
The Chief Minister also declared Monday a day of sorrow and postponed all official
engagements as a gesture of respect for the deaths.
