Over the past 10 years, Arts and Science are the popular stream

According to research by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Arts have been the most popular streams among youngsters. Only 14% of students have chosen commerce over the last 10 years.

In Gujarat and Tripura, more than 82% of students opted; in Tamil Nadu and Telangana, only 2% of students opted for the art stream; in Gujarat and Tripura. More than 70% of students opted for states like Punjab and Rajasthan.

Sanjay Kumar, the School Education Secretary, said, the education ministry is recently looking at standardising the assessment patterns for all 60 states nationwide because of the gap in pass rates among the states.

In India, there are three central boards, including (CBSE) the Central Board of Secondary Education, (CISCE) the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, and (NIOS) the National Institute of Open Schooling. Besides this, some states have their own state boards, bringing the total number to 60 school boards.

To analyse the differences in outcomes amongst state boards, the study reviewed the results of Class 10th and Class 12th for the state boards of Assam, Karnataka, Telangana, West Bengal, Andhra Bank, Manipur, Odisha, and Kerala.

All states have been requested to focus on assessment standardisation, as per the report. It was also mentioned that there are 11 states that contribute to 85% of school dropouts. These states include Gujarat, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal, Karnataka, and Haryana.
